Compact Disc (CD) + Digital Album
National Jazz Awards, Guitarist of the year, Bill Coon and acclaimed Canadian, vocalist Laura Crema have created a book of original genre-spanning songs. The offerings, which draw on jazz, Latin, country and folk music, forge moods which range from carefree exuberance to haunting melancholia. The sumptuous sonic interplay between Laura, Bill, and their distinguished collaborator Peggy Lee, cello & Jon Bentley, sax create lush moments of complex & mesmerizing sound.
The album developed organically from a longstanding musical friendship. Over the years, Laura and Bill frequently found themselves onstage together, appearing in a variety of ensembles. STRINGSONGS began when they chose to deepen that friendship by collaborating on lyrics and music. Fittingly, their first song began life as “Benni”: an instrumental Bill had written for a dear friend. Bill asked Laura if she was interested in writing some lyrics to help capture the essence of friendship and loss – themes which became the leitmotif for this collaboration.
